Apple Daily is a Hong Kong-based newspaper founded in 1995 under the media group, Next Digital Limited (previously known as Next Media Limited). Being one of the most popular news sources in Hong Kong, Apple Daily provides comprehensive news coverage through multiple channels, including print, online, and most recently, mobile.
As a separate offering from their general news application, Apple Daily wished to create a mobile application (app) 蘋果投資王dedicated to financial news and information. To enrich the app’s content and appeal, MegaHub designed and developed a simulated stock trading game promoted as a competition for the public. This project encompasses real time data and was modeled after our work on professional trading apps.
MegaHub was responsible for:
Designing the user interface of the mobile app
Developing the simulated stock trading game
Supporting banner management in the app to generate advertising revenue
Providing real-time stock quotes on the mobile app
Integrating Apple Daily news, commentaries, and videos into the app
Embedding real-time stock quote modules on the website
The client was highly satisfied with the project’s overall outcome, especially the inclusion of the simulated online stock trading game, which became the first of its kind for the Hong Kong media market. The game provided a unique, innovative and effective way for Apple Daily to engage readers and attract newcomers to its mobile platform. Besides creating a marketing buzz, the client experienced exceptionally high daily traffic for its app, earning its rank among the top 25 apps (Finance category) in Hong Kong immediately after its launch.
